Is Musical Masturbation Killing The Jamaican Music Industry? https://louditup.com/is-musical-masturbation-killing-the-jamaican-music-industry https://louditup.com/is-musical-masturbation-killing-the-jamaican-music-industry Lloyd Laing, Music Analyst -

In the heart of today's digital age, the world of music is experiencing a profound transformation.

Streaming platforms and the democratization of music production have given wings to countless aspiring artists, enabling them to share their creations with a global audience.

It is without a doubt, an exhilarating time for musicians, it is full of opportunities and promise, but it also comes with its share of challenges, especially for the Jamaican music industry.

Amidst this evolving musical landscape, a troubling trend has emerged, one that has come to be known as "musical masturbation."

This term is coined to describe a phenomenon where artists become excessively self-indulgent and driven by vanity. It is a focus on self that not only hinders their own growth but also casts a shadow on the overall health of the homegrown music industry.

The roots of this trend can be traced back to the East Coast "trap" music scene, the highlife of the West African "Yahoo Boys", and eventually Jamaica's own "choppa" culture, which stamped an indeliable imprint on the  Island's post-pandemic soundscape.

Initially, "musical masturbation" seemed a fleeting element to the vibrant street music culture of Jamaica.

Yet, slowly and subtly, it began to infiltrate the ecosystem, quietly rotting away the entrails of the homegrown music industry over the course of the last half a decade.

In a world where self-promotion has become as easy as posting on social media, some new and upcoming artists have become obsessed with gaining likes, followers, and shares.

Their first focus as new entrants is not honing their musical skills and creating authentic, relatable art, but the numbers on their screens, whether earned, bought or stolen, eventually losing sight of what truly matters.

The music.

The "rapid copycat syndrome" is another consequence of "musical masturbation".

Driven by the desire for instant fame and recognition, many new and upcoming artists are quick to mimic popular trends and artists, forsaking their uniqueness in early stages of development..

This frantic rush not only stifles creativity, but has flooded the market with imitations, making it extremely challenging for genuine innovators to find thier place.

In an environment where new catalogs are being built on shallow hits, the rush to churn out songs regarded as disposable subpar content has created a volatile environment, not only for new and upcoming acts, but also established artists as well.

Despite lavish album launches, extensive press coverage, and carefully orchestrated social media campaigns, the results are most times, far from satisfactory.

Especially when it comes to homegrown album exports.

It seems artists and producers are forgetting that the music industry as a whole, thrives on authenticity and was built on relatability. History has proven that artists who veer towards self-indulgence often risk alienating their potential fan base.

Think Soulja Boy.

The current endemic overflow of mediocre music in the Jamaican music export market, driven by "musical masturbation", has made it exceedingly difficult for genuinely talented artists to shine.

This oversaturation leaves aspiring artists struggling for recognition, and in the midst of this cacophony, most new and upcoming artists have begun to rely on trends and viral marketing techniques as a lifeline for momentary success.

But as quickly as these trends appear, they vanish, leaving their careers floundering, with mismanaged catalogs and shallow fan bases.

In this shifting landscape driven by perception the key is to strike a perspective that is a delicate balance between self-promotion and artistic authenticity.

Emerging and established artists also need to remember that staying true to their own voice and vision keeps them apart from the crowd and is a solid foundation to building a loyal fan base.

Along with the age old adge "Quality should always prevail over quantity", the time and effort required to refine their work is an investment in their own future.

Think Busy Signal.

The concept of compound interest is equally applicable to music as it is to finance. Every song if minted with quality and cataloged properly will reap dividends, no matter how small, they all add up in the long run.

Think Asha Bhosle. Google her.

Moreover, collaboration and collective growth are crucial in an industry that thrives on partnerships and mutual support.

The journey in the world of music is often long and arduous, requiring persistence and a focus on the long-term vision rather than just tomorrow's fleeting trends.

Think Sean paul.

In the end, by finding an equilibrium between self-promotion and artistic integrity, new and upcoming artists can navigate the ever-evolving landscape more effectively and ultimately make a lasting impact for themselves within today's ever-evolving music industry.

The future is indeed bright, but it is for those who remain true to their art and relatable to thier fans that will shine the brightest.

The Big Debate & Byron Messia VS. Teejay & A War Of Wits Or Longevitity? https://louditup.com/the-big-debate-byron-messia-vs-teejay-a-war-of-wits-or-longevitity https://louditup.com/the-big-debate-byron-messia-vs-teejay-a-war-of-wits-or-longevitity Justin Black, Staff Writer -

In the ever-shifting landscape of music, few stories have captured the attention of fans and industry insiders like the unexpected rivalry between two rising stars in the Dancehall genre – Byron Messia and Teejay.

It's a tale of contrasting journeys, unexpected twists, and the age-old question: Is one hit enough to secure a lasting legacy in the music world?

The Emergence of Byron Messia

In the midst of a Dancehall drought and a Caribbean music scene that yearned for a fresh sound, Byron Messia emerged as a beacon of hope. Born in Jamaica but hailing from the small island of St. Kitts nestled in the eastern Caribbean archipelago, Messia brought a unique perspective to the music world.

His hit song, "Taliban," became an anthem and a symbol of the genre's revival at a time when it needed it the most.

The Jamaican music community rallied behind Messia, embracing him as a new member of the Dancehall fraternity.

It was a moment of validation for the young artist, and it propelled him to new heights. The entire Caribbean community celebrated his success, and it seemed like Messia was destined for greatness. And so it was.

Teejay: The Slow Burner with a Fistful of Hits

In stark contrast to Messia's meteoric rise, Teejay took the slow and steady route to stardom. He didn't have the instant global debut recognition that "Taliban" brought to Messia, but Teejay had something equally valuable: consistency. He had harvested for himself a fistful of hits, earning him a loyal fan base and carving out a name for himself in the Dancehall world long before Byron Messia started to pursue music.

However, it was Teejay's 2023 single, "Drift," that changed the game entirely.

The song ignited a global firestorm, turning Teejay into a household name beyond the Caribbean borders.

His slow and steady approach had finally paid off, and he was riding high on a wave of success.

The Clash: Messia vs. Teejay

With Teejay's star on the rise and Messia still basking in the glow of "Taliban," the inevitable clash of these two titans was bound to happen.

Both artist cut major label deals from different angles, and you would think that Dancehall could have just savored the moment. but as they clawed neck and neck each week, blood was in the water, and Dancehall fans reacted frantically.

However, what surprised many was Messia's reaction to Teejay's success.

Rather than focusing on creating new hits and proving his worth in the industry, Messia chose to cook beef,  a move that raised eyebrows in the music community.

In an industry where the value of an artist's catalog is often a measure of their longevity, Teejay's consistent string of hits has put him in a strong position. But Messia's singular moment of brilliance has earned him a special place in the hearts of many, particularly within the Jamaican community.

The clash between the slow burner and the meteoric riser had fans and critics alike wondering who would come out on top in the long run.

The Long Game: Who Will Prevail?

As the Dancehall rivalry between Byron Messia and Teejay continues to unfold, the industry watches with bated breath.

Will Messia find a way to reinvent himself and deliver new hits that solidify his place in the music world, or will Teejay's consistency ultimately prove to be the winning formula?

In an industry where one-hit wonders often fade into obscurity, the story of Byron Messia and Teejay serves as a reminder that the path to musical success is diverse and unpredictable.

It's a tale of contrasting journeys, and the enduring question of whether a singular moment of brilliance can withstand the test of time.

As fans and industry insiders debate, one thing is certain – the clash of these titans is far from over, and the long game will determine the ultimate victor in the Dancehall arena.

Buju Banton's Musical Revolution: From Old to Bold With Born For Greatness https://louditup.com/buju-bantons-musical-revolution-from-old-to-bold-with-born-for-greatness https://louditup.com/buju-bantons-musical-revolution-from-old-to-bold-with-born-for-greatness Lloyd Laing, Music Analyst,

At specific moments in life, the most formidable resistance to change often originates from those closest to us, including dear friends, family, and, in the case of Buju Banton, his loyal fanbase.

Throughout the years, these devoted fans had grown accustomed to the Buju of old. However, following a profound journey to liberation, Buju emerged as a transformed individual.

These fans, including myself have remained fixated on the past, yearning for the familiar Buju, and we audaciously critiqued every new song, driven by a sense of entitlement, all the while disregarding Buju's profound personal evolution.

In his latest studio album, aptly titled "Born For Greatness," Buju Banton takes a moment to reintroduce himself with grace and eloquence.

Through "Born For Greatness," Buju Banton embarks on a mission to challenge the preconceived notions tied to his signature musical style of yesterday.

He fearlessly stretches the boundaries of his fans' comfort zones, offering an existential album that not only resonates, but also sparks with contemplation.

The album exudes a conscious and introspective tone in its lyrical content, unveiling a level of personal growth that is seldom glimpsed through the lens of Buju's social media.

Buju has undoubtedly reinvented himself, and the seeds of this transformation were already evident in his previous work, "Upside Down" but now, he reintroduces himself to the world, fully prepared to embrace both adoration and criticism.

This is the new Buju Banton, and personally as one of his biggest fans, I find the growth relatable and wholeheartedly embrace this evolution.

The only thing consistent in life is change, and Buju Banton's "Born For Greatness" is a perfect example.

The Changing Face of Dancehall Virality: Navigating the New Path to Lasting Stardom https://louditup.com/the-changing-face-of-dancehall-virality-navigating-the-new-path-to-lasting-stardom https://louditup.com/the-changing-face-of-dancehall-virality-navigating-the-new-path-to-lasting-stardom By Lloyd Laing, Music Analyst | Published on August 15, 2023

In recent years, the dancehall music scene has experienced a seismic shift in how new artists break into the spotlight, thanks to platforms like TikTok that can propel musicians to stardom overnight.

However, as the dust settles and we cross into the midway point of 2023, a stark reality has emerged: while the initial burst of virality can grant a ticket to the music industry's center stage, only a handful have been able to sustain their prominence and influence.

This prompts the question: what differentiates the flashes in the pan from the long-standing luminaries in today's homegrown dancehall music arena?

In 2022, a staggering 28 viral hits from 21 new acts surged to prominence, captivating listeners and fans across the globe.

Yet, as the fervor subsides and the music ecosystem evolves, merely six artists have managed to cement their status as household names.

Valiant, who catapulted into the limelight during the third quarter of 2022, stands as a prime example of maintaining momentum.

His consistent presence, coupled with engaging content, has allowed him to remain at the forefront of the scene.

Accompanying him are the likes of Blk H3ro, Armanii, and Jada Kingdom, each accomplishing remarkable milestones and extending their reach beyond their home markets to the US and UK.

However, as the euphoria of instant fame fades, the challenges of the algorithm-driven industry become glaringly evident.

Artists like Slikboss and Hoodcelebritty, once burning brightly in the dancehall cosmos, now find themselves struggling to pierce the low orbit of recognition.

Similarly, talents such as Jahshii and Javillani, despite flashes of brilliance, have encountered difficulties sustaining relevance.

Amidst a musical drought, many new faces have failed to rise to the occasion and truly solidify their standing.

A recent revelation from Certifiedstreams' July edition of the Homegrown 200 Report paints an intriguing picture: the current success rate for a dancehall artist is now at 28.7%, down from a more promising 33.4% in 2018. This decline underscores the need for a new approach and mindset amongst aspiring dancehall artists. No longer can viral virulence alone guarantee enduring prosperity.

Instead, the key lies in a delicate blend of high-quality releases and consistent output.

As the data suggests, it's evident that the initial explosion of TikTok virality is merely a stepping stone.

To truly shine and thrive in the contemporary music landscape, artists must adopt a strategic perspective. One-hit wonders, though enticing, are not sustainable. Audiences today seek authenticity, relatability, and a genuine connection with the artist's persona.

It's not just about releasing a catchy track; it's about crafting a narrative, a brand, and a legacy that resonates far beyond the trending charts.

In conclusion, the music industry's rapid evolution demands that aspiring dancehall artists recalibrate their approach.

The decline in the success rate of breaking out underscores the necessity for more than mere virality. High-quality and consistent releases, coupled with authentic engagement, are the cornerstones of lasting stardom.

As Valiant, Blk H3ro, Malie Donn, and Stalk Ashley have demonstrated, the path to enduring prominence lies in the fusion of talent, strategy, and connection, echoing the sentiment that only the true stars will continue to shine, long after the viral dust has settled.

Teejay's Drift Emerges as the Most Exported Song in The Caribbean For June 2023 https://louditup.com/teejays-drift-emerges-as-the-caribbeans-most-exported-song-in-june-2023 https://louditup.com/teejays-drift-emerges-as-the-caribbeans-most-exported-song-in-june-2023 Justin Black, Staff Writer -

In the vibrant Caribbean summer music scene, one artist has risen above the rest, captivating audiences with his infectious sound and undeniable talent.

Teejay, has once again proven himself as a force to be reckoned with, as his single "Drift" secured the top spot as the most exported song from the Caribbean in June 2023.

According to Certifiedstreams June 2023 Caribbean Top 200 Report, Teejay managed to rack up an impressive 912,687 verified Spotify streams and over 80,000 Shazams, in just 30 days, outshining industry heavyweights such as Rvssian, Shenseea, Sean Paul, and Popcaan. Coupled with an all-time milestone of over 1.49 million Spotify streams, Teejay's "Drift" has rapidly left an indelible mark on the Caribbean music landscape and its diaspora.

Teejay's rise comes as no surprise to those who have closely followed his career. Born and raised in Jamaica, Teejay honed his craft from a young age, immersing himself in the rich musical traditions of his homeland.

With a distinct blend of dancehall, reggae, and contemporary elements, Teejay has created a unique sound that effortlessly bridges the gap between multiple genres.

As the most exported song from the Caribbean in June, "Drift" showcases Teejay's ability to transcend borders and introduce the vibrant sounds of the region to a global audience.

But with cloudy due diligence murking the waters of his current wave, only time will tell how far Teejay rides the success this bonafide summer hit.

In the realm of Dancehall, where the infectious rhythms, vibrant energy, and lyrical prowess intertwine, one name stands out as the undisputed queen - Spice, born Grace Hamilton.

As the globally recognized Dancehall Queen, Spice bears a profound responsibility to uphold and promote the indigenously Jamaican dancehall culture.

She is an entertainer, and the stage is her office, where every performance becomes an authentic representation of the cultural echoes resonating through the Jamaican people, its diaspora, and the international dancehall community.

Spice's impact extends far beyond the borders of Jamaica, reaching dancehall aficionados across the globe.

Her universal appeal and ability to connect with diverse audiences have established her as a true ambassador of Jamaican culture.

As the current global Queen of Dancehall, Grace embraces this rich heritage and channels it through her performances, infusing them with the spirit and authenticity that resonates with dancehall enthusiasts worldwide.

Her connection to the culture goes beyond mere entertainment; it is a genuine expression of her roots, experiences, and shared narratives of the dancehall community.

Unfortunately, there are those who attempt to question Grace's representation, often associating her with an elitist minority due to her apparent financial status, and off stage regality.

However, such claims fail to recognize the overwhelming support she receives from the diverse mass of dancehall lovers worldwide.

Grace's popularity and influence arise from her ability to bridge gaps and break barriers, uniting people from all walks of life under the common love for dancehall music.

Her career achievements and personal endeavours serve as a testament to the universal appeal Spice has earned through her efforts to transcend social and cultural boundaries, and most importantly..as an independent artist.

Her representation is not confined to a specific demographic or geographic location but extends across the vast expanse of the international dancehall community.

Through her performances, Spice amplifies the voices of millions, becoming an undisputed cultural ambassador who showcases the richness of Jamaican heritage and its global impact.

As we acknowledge her remarkable journey, let us celebrate the power of dancehall to unite, inspire, and transcend boundaries, and recognize without bias Spice's place as an icon in the world of music and culture.

Spice Hits 450 Million All&Time Streams on Spotify https://louditup.com/spice-hits-450-million-all-time-streams-on-spotify https://louditup.com/spice-hits-450-million-all-time-streams-on-spotify - Ava irving, Staff Writer

In an awe-inspiring demonstration of strength and resilience, Spice, the reigning queen of Dancehall, continues to impress her dominace in Jamaican music history

Just months after triumphing over a health scare that reverberated through the global music community, this enterprising mother of two has achieved a remarkable milestone: an astounding 450 million all-time streams on Spotify, solidifying her reign as the most accomplished female Dancehall artist to wear a Queen's crown.

Surpassing the accomplishments of notable figures such as Mr. Vegas (417 million streams), the legendary Buju Banton (429 million streams), and New Zealand's Fat Freddy Drop (435 million streams), Spice's feat is all the more extraordinary.

Although Alkaline is ahead of her with 459 million Spotify streams, Spice's achievement places her among an elite club of only three homegrown female artists within the top 100 most-streamed reggae/dancehall artists of all time, man or woman, dead or alive.

She joins fellow trailblazers Shenseea, who boasts an impressive 460 million streams, and the indomitable force known as Koffee, with an astonishing 536 million streams, Spice now finds herself in the rarefied air of the music industry's most powerful female figures.

From her commanding stage presence to her infectious melodies, she has enthralled audiences worldwide, leaving an indelible mark on the very essence of the genre she wholeheartedly represents.

As her star continues to ascend, we eagerly anticipate witnessing the new heights Spice will undoubtedly reach, as she etches an everlasting legacy in the annals of global music history.

Vybz Kartel & Incarceration Cannot Stop His Local & Global Radio Presence https://louditup.com/vybz-kartel-incarceration-cannot-stop-his-local-global-radio-presence https://louditup.com/vybz-kartel-incarceration-cannot-stop-his-local-global-radio-presence - Ava Irving, Staff Writer

Renowned Jamaican Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel remains a dominant force in the music industry, surpassing over 1,300 fellow homegrown artists vyeing for spins on nationally recognied local radio stations, Community and Global Sound Systems, Online Radio Hubs, and Disapsorian Radio, despite facing a proposed 35-year sentence before parole.

In Jamaica, where a total of 55 terrestrial and online reporting radio stations operate, only seven dedicate a significant portion (at least 75%) of their music programming to Reggae and Dancehall music.

Added to that revelation, in the first quarter of 2023, Afrobeats made a strong presence on the remaining stations, while Religious urban music maintained a consistent presence across most secular oriented radio stations.

Among the secular radio categories, Classical, Blues, and R&B outpaced Hip-Hop and EDM in Q1.

However, AAA hits and solid gold pop singles across all genres continued to dominate the majority of the airwaves in Jamaica.

In addition to Vybz Kartel, popular artists such as Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Chronixx, Busy Signal, Protoje and Masicka closely followed in terms of local radio popularity.

Furthermore, Valiant, Jahmiel, Chronic Law, and Romain Virgo experienced impressive growth figures during the first quarter of 2023.

It is noteworthy that almost 60% of locally generated radio-related royalties leave the country as outgoing remittances.

To address this issue, Caribbean governments should draw inspiration from the Canadian government and advocate for local radio stations to include a minimum of 60% local artists within their chosen music format.

Jamaica and the wider Caribbean region should not be solely defined by Reggae, Dancehall, or Soca.

The region boasts talented artists from every genre, acting as global ambassadors who often remain unrecognized.

For example, Trinidadian artist Haddaway's hit single "What is Love" has become one of the most recognizable songs since Bob Marley's "One Love" in the early 90s, emphasizing the success of Caribbean stars ouside of traditional Caribbean genres.

Blaiz Fayah: The Rising Dancehall Artist from Paris https://louditup.com/blaiz-fayah-the-rising-dancehall-artist-from-paris https://louditup.com/blaiz-fayah-the-rising-dancehall-artist-from-paris - Justin Black, Staff Reporter

Blaiz Fayah is a rising star in the dancehall music scene, with a unique sound that is getting attention worldwide. The Paris-based artist is a songwriter, singer, and composer whose inspiration is influenced by Reggae Dancehall.

The French-based artist comes from a family of musicians heavily influenced by reggae dancehall. He has already made a name for himself in the Caribbean and Latin America garnering millions of vews and streams each month as an independent act out of France.

Blaiz Fayah's musical influences are varied, from French rap to Reggae Dancehall, with artists such as Booba, Arsenïk, Vybz Kartel, Konshens, Busy Signal, and Buju Banton. He draws inspiration from different artists, appreciating their unique sounds and styles.

Though based in Paris, Blaiz Fayah's music has been exported quite a bit, and he is better known across the Atlantic than in home country.

He attributes this to the fact that his music is in English, which has no borders.

Ironically it was in Costa Rica that one of his titles exploded, and he has no idea how it happened.

When he sings there, he is surprised to see the crowd singing his songs word for word.

He was in Colombia not long ago, and it was the same.

When he experiences this kind of success, it motivates him to do more, and he realizes that the world is big, and he wants more.

Based on his credits he collaborates with a circle of producers he knows and trusts, such as DJ Glad and Mafio House, who understand his sound and work well with him. He also collaborates with Dutch Tribal Kush and Kybba of Basshall Movement, with whom he has churned out his biggest hit, "Bad."

His latest release "Take It Easy" featuring Busy Signal has already racked up impressive numbers on Youtube and Spotify since its release on April 7th and is a testament to his talent, hard work, and dedication to his craft.

With his upcoming tour in Europe and a new album in the works, we can expect to hear a lot more from Blaiz Fayah in the near future.

Top 5 Dancehall Hits Worldwide This Week https://louditup.com/top-5-dancehall-worldwide-this-week https://louditup.com/top-5-dancehall-worldwide-this-week Mon, 16 Jan 2023 00:58:57 -0500 #Skankn Sting Leaves Homegrown Dancehall On Life Support https://louditup.com/sting-leaves-dancehall-on-life-support https://louditup.com/sting-leaves-dancehall-on-life-support - Staff Reporter

Launched in 1984 at the infamous Prison Oval in Spanish Town, Jamaica, STING, once billed as the greatest one-night show on earth ended in chaos in St. Ann, leaving patrons, performers and sponsors stung once again.

The event which hosted its umpteenth staging at the illustrious Plantation Cove in St. Ann Jamaica, was launched on rocky ground with Dancehall's biggest names retreating from an invitation to the event's controversial stage, which has seen infamous face 2 face lyrical clashes between greats such as Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel and Mavado, was reduced to a colloquial "poppyshow" when it tipped female comedian Queenie, and Shock Personality Amari to go head to head in a last ditch effort to save the dying brand.

Queenie won hands down as the expected lyrical clash was reduced to a wig pull which left Amari weaveless.

Marred by mediocre performances from the start, the event ended in expected chaos as per usual, with performer entourages having their own clash backstage.

This clash eventually triggered a mass stampede from the venue leaving many patrons shoeless in a bid to escape the melee that spilled into the event parking lot.

However it was the impromptu micless performance by exploding star Valiant, who was billed for the event but never got the chance to perform. The only bright spot for fans who sang along to his music.

Having released his EP the "Beast Of The Era" on November 3rd 2022, Skeng's debut studio project has had a marginal run since its release just over 45 days ago.

None of the EP's six tracks managed to hit Spotify's editorial playlists during its first week of release. However, Beast of the Era has been featured by 302 Spotify curators. This has helped the album garner 619,800+ Spotify streams to date, or 413 album equivalent units on that platform.

"Thug Life", the album's most Shazamed single has continued to gain traction, followed by "Eedeatt", which has been featured by 250 Spotify curators coupled with two editorial placements on Apple Music.

"It's True" featuring Shenseea managed to garner three editorial spots on Apple Music.

The album had a disappointing performance on iTunes' Reggae Top 100 Album chart where it continues to make no regional appearances, which would indicate that download sales on that platform have been slow.

However, on Apple Music, the album appeared on 43 regional Reggae charts where it managed to hit the top 10 seven times.

A recent signing with Geejam/Downtown made Skeng one of three young homegrown artists who were able to make it to Mid-Level in 2022, having enjoyed relative success with fans who are of Caribbean descent living in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Skeng's debut EP "Beast Of The Era" was welcomed by many fans, but industry critics deemed it premature, under-promoted, and with no radio ready material, the album has seemlingly performed below expectations.

Under The Musicscope: Alkaline Ripple EFFX https://louditup.com/under-the-musicscope-alkaline-ripple-effx https://louditup.com/under-the-musicscope-alkaline-ripple-effx - Staff Reporter

Dancehall artist Alkaline released his Ripple EFFX studio project recently. The EP featured six tracks and was highly anticipated but did not meet the expectations in terms of sales during the first week of release.

Despite the fact that The Ripple Effx was scheduled to be the follow-up to his critically acclaimed "Top Prize" album, which was released in 2021, it has not managed to transcend the shadow of its predecessor.

Among the six tracks on the EP, Best has garnered the most traction, but hasn't found its way into any of Spotify's highly sought-after Editorial playlists, despite the fact that it has the most listeners.

The single has, however, accumulated 25 Spotify Playlists, 2 Pandora Stations, 1 Apple Editorial Playlist, 11 Radio Spins, and 1,192,910 YouTube views so far.

In the distance, Brawling has landed in only 14 Spotify Playlists, 2 Apple Playlists, 3 Pandora Stations, and 3 Youtube playlists. It has racked up 233,530 views on Youtube so far.

As of December 19th the album has been streamed 133.3K times on Spotify, which is the equivalent of just 88 physical sales units via that platform.

Shane O Tops The Dancehall Global Top40 https://louditup.com/shane-o-tops-the-dancehall-global-top40 https://louditup.com/shane-o-tops-the-dancehall-global-top40 - Staff Reporter

Jamaican artist Shane O seems to have broken his drought with his latest single "Dark Room" which has topped this week's Dancehall Global Top40 Chart.

The song which was shot into low orbit on the back of a DJ Khaled IG endorsement, is enjoying a streaming frenzy online.

On Spotify the single harvested close to 50,000 streams in the last four days to pull in a running total of 79,000 streams, and has hauled in 1.7 million youtube views since its release five months ago, 115,000 of which were generated in the 48 hours after DJ Khaled's IG endorsement of the single which was released in mid Feburary 2022.

Shane O made his debut at the tender age of 12, with the song "School Is Important" in 1999. By 2002 he was a feature on tracks with the likes of Chuck Fender, Wayne Marshall, and Lenn Hammond.

By the time he graduated high school in 2004, Shane O was a household name, and a goto feature artist for some of the industry's biggest superstars of the time.

But just as quickly as he came, he disappeared. It was not until 2019 that Shane O would signal his return to the studio with the aptly titled track "Rising".

Over the last two years Shane O has been on a feverish recording pace that has finally reaped the artist a diamond in the rough.

1Biggs Don, the Jamaican viral sensation known for the song "Bwoy Haffi", continues to outstride the naysayers with his debut hit garnering record numbers across the major streaming platforms.

The single which debuted on the Official Jamaica Top40 Charts at #6 three weeks ago, became a chart-topper with almost 200,000 Spotify Streams under his belt to capture the top slot this week.

This comes as a surprise considering the declining streaming numbers for new homegrown releases since the latter part of May, and with numbers in for the first week of June, the prognosis is no different so far.

Skeng managed to maintain a top 10 presence with four singles in the Top 10 and Squash's "Ambala" continued to move upward, peaking this week at #4.

Jada Kingdom managed to haul in just over 81,000+ Spotify Streams to secure her sixth place up 2 positions from last week.

With  Skillbeng, Shenseea, Skeng, and Squash swapping the top 5 slots on the Jamaica Top40 for the past few weeks, coupled  with the falling numbers right across the board, the weekly chart was due for a shakeup.

Though Skeng is out in his numbers, with at least 6 songs on the chart each week, his numbers are waning, but he is not alone.

Jula Fatstash Crosses The Atlantic https://louditup.com/Jula, Fatstash, Netherlands, Dancehall https://louditup.com/Jula, Fatstash, Netherlands, Dancehall The multi-cultural dynamics of Jamaican music never fails to showcase the farlung reaches of its influence, this time in the incarnation of Julian King, now known as the Dancehall Artist and Clothing Designer, Jula Fatstash.

Born in Amsterdam to parents of Jamaican and Croatian heritage, Jula earned his moniker early and from as far back as can be considered, he was immersed in music.

By his early teens he would find reference and reverence in the lyrical litanies of Hiphop its grandmasters such as 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G, and its Jamaican connection, through which he found his initial lyrical inspiration via Vybz Kartel, and Assassin a.k.a. Agent Sasco.

By his late teens, Jula had developed his own branded flavour of lyrical delivery, infused with his now inherent deejay and rapping skills, never failing to sharpen with reprised freestyles among his peers.

And it was under their encouragement and support, that he would begin his journey into music.

Starting out as Young Cashino, he would tap into his entrepreneurial spirit to start his own FATSTASH Enterprise, with the concept to expand the idea into an urban music centric brand.

Initially a hub for music distribution, the brand has evolved into an agile urban conglomerate to include the FATSTASH clothing line and the Party series "FATSTASH VIBES".

Though finding musical success in the Dutch Reggae & Dancehall circuit, the artist was determined to cross the Atlantic, and establish his presence in the heartlands of the Jamaican soundscape.

Returning to his roots in the mid 2010s, Jula would combine his FATSTASH brand name with his childhood nickname to herald the artist we all know now as JULA FATSTASH.

By 2018, Jula had earned himself lyrical notoriety and the respect of his counterparts throughout Europe and the Jamaican Diaspora. 2020 would see the release of notable singles such as "Real Party" featuring Shawn Storm, and "Motion" produced by music maven Jason Imanuel.

Two years later, singles such as "Banga Phone" would set the stage for his latest release "Shatta Style", which has already racked up close to 60,000 Spotify streams, peaking at #44 on the Itunes Reggae Top100 in April and #34 on the Global Dancehall Top40 Chart, with the Youtube Video already garnering over 700,000 views since its release in March 2022.
But the journey continues for the focused professional, who has chosen to remain grounded in his quest to make his footprint in the fresh landscape of New Wave Dancehall.
