In his second musical incarnation the artist once known as Rendeva now "Devagad", is a total rebrand; and it shows in his first effort "Affi Give Thanks".
The simple but infectious single is a song of gratitude, and though it is unapologetic in its afrobeat roots, the Jamaican artist does a fairly impressive job in keeping it homegrown with a versatile adaptation of afrobeat vocal accents, that seemed to have become a signature part of the 2022 music soundscape.
"Affi Give Thanks" has the construct to be a great product. But like many of his emerging counterparts, they fail miserably on the packaging.
Visually appealing cover artwork is still very relevant to the consumer experience, especially as a young artist delivering a song with such strong potential.
That being said, Devagad's "Affi Give Thanks" is a natural earworm that can be digested in any setting, and is a noble and unapologetic attempt at blending afrobeat's earthiness with Dancehall's lyrical landscape.
