Persistence is to try they say, but the artist from central Jamaica known as Heavy Reyn is paying his dues and building his credibility in an unforgiving and crowded marketplace.
Despite his rich multilingual family background in entertainment, Heavy Reyn refused to take a shortcut to stardom, and in 2016 deciding to make his own mark, enduring years of creative struggle in the process.
Throughout the next half a decade, he would hone his craft, while his counterparts from his home ground of Manchester earned themselves shorts bursts of fame, he hustled his music in the digital underground basements of Audiomack, and Soundcloud focused on his long term goal to be a self defined intellectual in the new dancehall.
With artists such as Agent Sasco, Vybz Kartel, Damian Marley, and Skillibeng among the artist on his vision board, Heavy Reyn is carefully plotting his place in mainstream Dancehall.
His latest single "Sign" on the Vein Riddim by Ice Cold Records, shows the emerging artist holding his own among household heavyweights such as Turbulence, Cutty Ranks, and Singer Irie, signalling that he might just be ready to push the homegrown musical envelope.
"Sign" has so far racked up over 50,000 Spotify streams since its release and has been earning the young gun nods of respect in homegrown circles and as far as Tanzania.
